Meet Lori Delin, President and Founder of Tru Colors Contracting

Sep 19, 2022

Meet Lori Delin, President of Tru Colors Contracting. Lori and her husband Paul founded Tru Colors Contracting in 2010. The two reside in the South Florida area. Lori and Paul are the parents of five children. “I have one son, and Paul has four kids, two daughters and two sons. So, when I married Paul, I inherited four kids. Most of our family lives nearby. My son lives in Boca and Paul’s daughters live in nearby Palm Beach.

Lori has been a South Florida resident for more than 30 years. “I grew up in New York on Long Island and my parents used to come down every year to South Florida for vacation. When I was 16, I knew I wanted to live in Florida. After completing two years of community college in New York, I transferred to FAU in Boca Raton. My Dad had a condo here in South Florida, so I moved into his condo. I’ve been a Florida resident ever since,” commented Lori.

Prior to starting Tru Colors Contracting in 2010, Lori worked as a Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley and Paine Webber for more than decade. “When I met Paul, he asked if I wanted to start a paint company,” Lori noted. Having previously owned Armstrong Custom and Pressure Cleaning, Paul wanted to start another paint company, and the concept was ideal for Lori. “I no longer wanted to work under the gun of corporate America,” she added. The two have successfully run Tru Colors Contracting for the past 13 years and Tru Colors Contracting is the foremost leader today in residential and commercial painting service in the Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County area.

Lori and Paul founded 24 Hour Floor, a premium concrete coated floor company several years later. We were already doing concrete coated floors for our South Florida customers and the demand was so great, we decided to create a separate company dedicated just to floors, noted Lori.

The pair also founded My Stack Box, a moving and storage company serving residents and businesses throughout most of the state of Florida with their portable storage and moving needs.

Being a female proprietor in a male dominated industry does not intimidate Lori. “I don’t think of it as any different. I think it is important to earn the respect of the team, regardless if you are a woman or not. I work extremely hard, and I feel I have the respect of our team. It is a very interesting thing. When the company was smaller, I was the only woman in an all-male environment. I don’t mind it at all. It’s something I don’t even think about,” she noted.

Lori loves to travel. “We do many-business related trips. I enjoy learning from other business owners and entrepreneurs. Although she does not have a favorite destination, Lori enjoys taking short vacations. “I like to go anywhere for a few days and enjoy the change of scenery. We’ve recently been to both Nashville and Las Vegas for a few days.

I like short trips like that. I also enjoy going on trips with my girlfriends. We do a lot of out-of-town Country music concerts, and we were recently in Daytona Beach for a weekend. I love doing short little trips…I don’t enjoy taking long trips,” commented Lori.

On the topic of music, Lori is a fan of many types of music. “I love music. I listen to all kinds of music: Country, Rock, Electronic and Live Music. I like Garth Brooks, Luke Bryant, and Luke Combs. Paul and I especially enjoy electronic music and every year we go on an electronic music cruise. We just love to listen to music.

Lori is also a fitness enthusiast. I became really into exercising over the last year or two. I walk a lot; I like to hike, and I sometimes ride bikes with Paul. I walk 5-6 times a week for at least 45 minutes. It is like meditation to me.”

“Running a business is a 24/7 job. However, I love work and I love to see things put together. It's exciting. I do a lot of self-development too. Learning how to be better and learning how to run a better company.” I am also part of a networking group, and we meet once a week. I enjoy sitting with these other entrepreneurs to learn from them, concluded Lori.

Tru Colors Contracting, a South Florida owned and operated company with offices in Pompano Beach, is the parent company of 24 Hour Floor, the premium concrete coated floor choice in the South Florida and Treasure Coast area and My Stack Box, the premium concrete coated floor choice in the South Florida and Treasure Coast area.
